Book your place now: What Works webinars share learning from intervention evaluations

The Thames Valley Violence Prevention Partnership is hosting three open-to-all and free to access online webinars which will share the key findings, learning and next steps from recent VPP intervention evaluations and research activity.

It is hoped that local partners from across the Thames Valley, together with colleagues from across the national VRU network and other key agencies/government departments will join to benefit from the learning being shared.

A key role for the VPP is to undertake robust evaluations of the interventions it is trialling to gather evidence as to what works and to then share that learning to inform local decision making and to make our violence prevention interventions more effective and efficient.

Three new evaluation and research reports have recently been published and to help share the findings and allow for discussion with partners, the VPP is to host three separate webinars exploring each in turn.

Advance registration is required – book via the links below:

The first report presents findings from a randomised control trial ran to assess the impact of a Focused Deterrence intervention trial, run in Milton Keynes. This trial has shown very impressive results, with a 54% reduction in crime harm index scores for those who received the treatment. The first webinar on 27 November will discuss these findings in detail.

The second report presents findings from a randomised control trial ran to assess the impact of a Schools Navigator mentoring intervention, also run in Milton Keynes. This trial has seen an 11.5% lower overall suspensions in the treatment schools, and 17.5% lower suspensions for the individual students treated (when compared to control group schools/students). The second webinar on 4 December will discuss these findings in detail.

The third report is a summary of a recent review of available existing research which was undertaken by the VPP’s in-house research team. It focuses on Mentoring from NEET to EET – exploring key themes behind what makes mentoring approaches work to help young people re-engage with education, employment and training. The third webinar on 11 December will share these findings.
